The science is in: humans are now ingesting roughly a credit card's worth of microplastics every week. A 2019 study from the World Health Organization found microplastics present in both bottled and tap water, with bottled water containing roughly twice as many particles per liter.

A 2019 study tested 259 bottles from 11 brands across 9 countries. 93% showed signs of microplastic contamination. Average: 325 plastic particles per liter.
Tap Water (Filtered)
Most municipal systems filter for bacteria and chemicals, but microplastics slip through. Studies show 4-5 particles per liter from tap water on average.
Alive Water (Glass)
Tested by third-party labs. Microplastics measured below detection limits when water is delivered in glass. Glass is inert — it doesn't shed into your water.
What the Research Shows
Studies published in Environment International (2022) detected microplastics in human blood for the first time — 77% of test subjects had measurable amounts. A 2023 study found microplastics in human lung tissue, breast milk, and placental samples.
The long-term effects are still being studied, but early findings suggest potential links to inflammation, endocrine disruption, and metabolic disorders.
This is why the container matters as much as the water. Even the cleanest spring water, packaged in plastic, picks up microplastic contamination along the way. Glass doesn't. It's inert, it's reusable, and it doesn't shed.
